Just before midnight Sunday April 27th 2008, The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and The South Mississippi Narcotics Task Force dismantled an active Clandestine Meth Lab Sunday night and four men were arrested and charged with manufacturing crystal methamphetamine. Local Citizens traveling on North Maynor Creek Drive Sunday noticed a very strong chemical smell and called SMNTF Agent Johnny Smith. Chief Deputy Gerald Barnett, Deputy Jamie Beard, and Investigator Kevin Stevens investigated and confirmed the citizens information.
 
Chief Deputy Gerald Barnett, Deputy Jamie Beard, Deputy Charles Everett, Investigator Kevin Stevens, SMNTF Commander Brent Pursell, and SMNTF Agent Johnny Smith converged on the mobile home occupied by four males and discovered a working meth lab. DEA was brought in to conduct the hazardous clean up.
 
Wayne County Justice Court Judge Charles Brittion set bond at $50,000.00 for the manufacturing crystal methamphetamine charge which carries a maximum of 30 years and a one million dollar fine.
 
“We are starting to see these meth labs reappear in Wayne County. All I can say is, Cook Meth and we will be making a house call. I encourage the people in the communities to be aware of these odors and notify us.” said Sheriff Stein Farrior.
