Drug Store Burglary Solved

On October 21st 2007, at approximately 0200 hours, Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy Johnny Walker was patrolling the stores in Buckatunna when he observed a Ford Ranger parked adjacent to a building. The interior and cargo lights were on. Deputy Walker observed a bloody cloth in the truck and a bag in the bed of the truck. The bag was open and Deputy Walker observed a handgun with a price tag affixed to it. Deputy Walker conducted a NCIC inquiry and learned that the Waynesboro Police Department and the ATF had the firearm was listed as stolen from Cooley’s Drug Store. Deputy Walker notified Investigators Mike Mozingo and Kevin Stevens.
Waynesboro Police Department Investigator Mark West met Investigators Mozingo and Stevens at the location. Four additional firearms were discovered from the passenger compartment. The vehicle was impounded. Central Dispatch received a call from Drexler Johnson reporting the Ford Ranger stolen from Buckatunna. Deputy Walker, WPD Patrolman Brian Everett, Investigators West, Mozingo, and Stevens met Johnson at Buckatunna. Johnson was taken into custody. Two assault rifles and a handgun stolen in the burglary was recovered from the vehicle Johnson was traveling in.
Deputy Walker, WPD Patrolman Brian Everett, Investigators West, Mozingo, and Stevens recovered eight additional handguns from a residence located on Thomas Hinton Drive. Deputy Tim Hollinghead, Patrolman Everett, & Investigator West recovered seven handguns from a residence located on the Stateline Battles Road. The Waynesboro Police Department charged Drexler Johnson with burglary of a commercial building.
“I commend Deputy Walker on breaking this case and leading to taking these guns off the streets” said Sheriff Farrior. ”This is an excellent case of the Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department working together to fight crime in our community” Farrior said.
