WCSO Investigates Complaints On Door to Door Salesmen

The Wayne County Sheriff's Department was made aware of two individuals selling meat products door to door. The two individuals travel in a pick up truck and sell meat products from a freezer unit on the truck. The Sheriff's Department has received numerous complaints concerning high pressure sales tactics against elderly people. Several citizens also voiced concerns about the actual amount of meat that was received for the money that was paid. One such individual paid $480 and reported only receiving approximately $50 worth of meat products. On Monday night, November 3rd 2008, Deputies Jamey Beard, Charles Everett, and Johnny Walker encountered the individuals when they attempted sale off duty Deputy Beard some meat products. Officers conducted back ground checks on the individuals and conducted an investigation into into their activities. No charges were filed. Citizens are encouraged to report anyone using questionable sales tactics especially when vurnable people are targeted.
