SATURDAY, AUG. 3, 1 p.m. -- Wayne County Sheriff Jody Ashley & all law enforcement are asking residents to be vigilant for any individuals posing as utility workers – including wearing hard hats and safety vests -- as a means of gaining access to your home. Utility companies, such a Dixie Electric and Mississippi Power that serve our area, always send workers in company trucks marked with logos and employees with company credentials and customized company shirts and gear on localized service calls. If an individual or group asks to gain access to your home, remember to ask to see their utility company credentials mentioned here. If you are concerned about someone without these kinds of credentials trying to gain access to your home, close and lock your door before calling 9-1-1 immediately. Remember, as a good rule of thumb, power company personnel should never really need to access the inside of your home as their responsibility is from the transmission lines and poles to the power-company owned meter. Power companies like Dixie and MP DO NOT service electrical repairs inside homes ... that has to be done by licensed electrical contractors that the homeowner hires.
